Kaarlo Juho St%C3%A5hlberg


Kaarlo Juho Sthlberg was a Finnish jurist and academic, who played a central role in the drafting of the Constitution of Finland in 1919. He was the first President of Finland and a liberal nationalist.

Sthlberg was born in Suomussalmi, in the Kainuu region of Finland. He was the second child of Johan Gabriel Sthlberg, an assistant pastor, and Amanda Gustafa Castrn. On both sides of his family, Sthlbergs male forebears had been Lutheran clergymen. He was christened Carl Johan , but later Finnicized his forenames to Kaarlo Juho , as did most Fennomans .
